Report & Reflection (Week 12)

This week we were asked to Google ourselves which is something I have never done before. The first thing that popped up when I typed my name into Google was my personal Instagram profile (I thought that I had made my account private!). Luckily I don't post anything on Instagram that I would wish to hide, but this is still a reminder to be mindful of my online privacy settings. Some other websites that popped up were my Facebook (which is private), my class Twitter account and my Pinterest account. Based on what I found when I Googled myself, I believe that I have a positive digital footprint. Everything that I found about myself online I would feel comfortable sharing with family, friends and colleagues.

This course taught me about the rights and responsibilities of digital citizens, which is information that I have taken away and will use in my everyday life. During this course I had identified my top three rights and responsibilities as being the right to privacy, the responsibility to cite works used and the responsibility to report inappropriate use. As a digital citizen I will continue to respect the online privacy of others as well as maintain my own online privacy, I will continue to cite works used during my studies and I will make sure to report any inappropriate use of digital tools that I witness. If I continue to act responsibly in the digital world and leave a positive digital footprint through my identified rights and responsibilities, I will hopefully encourage the people around me to do the same.

Thanks for reading!
Rebecca :)
