Report & Reflection (Week 11)

Reflecting on Podcasts:

Check out my blog post about podcasts below to find out how I enjoyed using SoundCloud for the first time this week. As I mentioned, I really enjoyed using SoundCloud but don't know when I would have the opportunity to use it again in the future. Therefore, I haven't included on my PLE diagram. If you have the need to create a podcast I would highly suggest using SoundCloud as it was extremely user friendly.

Connecting Feedly to the Course:

This week I found an article on my Feedly reader called How to Build Your Brand Name Through Social Media: A Primer. This article came from the Entrepreneur, which is a website I would suggest all young business professionals subscribe to on Feedly. I think that this article is very useful and relevant to this course because in this day and age many job recruiters are looking to social media to find potential applicants. Therefore, we must be cautious of the way we present ourselves online and of our security settings if we don't want information to be made available to mass audiences, such as potential employers.

I really enjoyed this article and would suggest you all give it a read!

Cheers,
Rebecca

PODCAST

This week's hands on activities revolved around using podcasts. At first I was nervous to begin making a podcast because I assumed that it would be very difficult and time consuming, however this was not the case. I chose to use SoundCloud because I had heard of the website before (I had never used it) and within minutes I was creating my first podcast. The website was extremely simple to use and it did not take much time at all. The website allows you to record yourself and listen to it over and over again, while making changes and re-recording yourself, until you have the podcast the way you would like it. Once the podcast is completed you simply press share and it allows you to title the podcast and enter a description. You can also chose whether or not you want your podcast to be private. I chose to make a public podcast so I could share it below with all of my classmates.

Although I was very impressed with SoundCloud I don't know where I would include it on my PLE diagram. I can't see myself using SoundCloud at work or in my personal life. I would maybe put it under my school related digital tools but even then I don't know if it would every come in handy. Whenever we do class presentations at school we are always speaking in front of the class we are never asked to prerecord our presentations. It would also be difficult for the entire class to hear the podcast because I noticed that it was very quiet, and I had to turn the volume up on my computer just so I could hear it myself. Nonetheless, I am very happy that I had the chance to explore SoundCloud and would enjoy the chance to use it sometime again in the future.

Until next time,
Rebecca
