This week's hands on activities revolved around Twitter...and surprisingly this was a new discovery for me. I am a part of many social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest however I rarely use Twitter. I used to have a Twitter account but I hadn't used it in so long that I forgot the password and had to make a new one for the purposes of this class. I really enjoyed my short time spent exploring Twitter this week and will continue to use it regularly. I followed Brock's Twitter account as well as various Canadian and Toronto news accounts. Similar to my experience using the RSS feed readers, I really enjoy using Twitter to keep up to date with current events at Brock while on my co-op term in Toronto. I also think it is a good tool for reaching out to classmates over the course of our learning as well as a useful platform for sharing online discoveries. Twitter is already on my PLE diagram from week 2 because I did have an account. I put it under social media because before this class I only knew of people using Twitter for that purpose. However, I am beginning to see how Twitter can be an even better digital tool for educational purposes.
This week I found two articles of interest through my Feedly reader. The first is about the dangers of pulling all-nighters while in university and can be read here. I think that this article can be very useful to many university students as it outlines the common side effects of pulling all-nighters, which can be detrimental to your learning and mental well-being.
The second article I found is directed towards professionals who are looking to hire new employees and why they should choose to hire Brock co-op students. I enjoyed this article because it actually provided information and resources for interested professionals to reach out to Brock's Co-op Programs Office. I would highly recommend Brock's co-op programs to anyone looking to gain relevant work experience at the same time as getting your education. Until next time,
Rebecca :)
